January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month
In the United States this coming year, there will be 12,170 new cases of cervical cancer, with an estimate of 4,220 deaths. At least 60% of the time, women who die of cervical cancer have not had a PAP test in the past five years, or EVER! This important test saves many lives, but recommendations are changing and will likely continue to change. The biggest changes involve time frames for PAP tests, and the importance of testing for human papilloma virus (HPV).
